On the 27th April 2017, the National Youth Commission boss Commissioner Anthony Alimamy Koroma received the National Award "Member of the Order of the Rokel" by H. E. President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma for 21 years of service to the State in the field of Youth Development. The National Award held on Independence Day (27th April) every year by the President recognizes outstanding Sierra Leoneans who have contributed to national development.It was not a surprise that the Youth Commissioner joined other eminent Sierra Leoneans for this prestigious award.

Hailed from Port Loko District and a product of the St. Francis Secondary School Makeni, Tomlinson High School, Songo and the Government Secondary School, Bo (The Bo School), a B.Sc. (Hons) Economics from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone and a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana,Legon set the basis for his professional experience over the years.
Mr. Koroma has served as a professional youth worker for 21 years, starting as Secretary General of the National Social Mobilization Secretariat (NASMOS) in 1994.

He is the first Senior Youth Officer to be employed as a professional youth worker by the Government of Sierra Leone in 1996 and rose through the ranks.

He was appointed Director of Youth in 2005 in the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Sierra Leone, a position he occupied until 2011 when he was appointed Commissioner of the National Youth Commission by H.E. The President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.

Since his appointment as Commissioner of the National Youth Commission, Mr. Koroma has among his success stories pioneered the formulation of the Sierra Leone Youth Policy of 2003, provided professional leadership on the reviewed 2014 Sierra Leone National Youth Policy and the development of a framework for the National Youth Service of Sierra Leone which was launched by the President in December 2016.

He also coordinated the preparation and publication of the first Sierra Leone Status of the Youth Report 2012 and contributed technically, to the preparation of the Blue Print for Youth Development in Sierra Leone, both are working documents that informs the government and development partners of the priority areas for youth development. As Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Commission, he won two Presidential Performance Management Awards consecutively - Bronze Award in 2012 and Silver Award in 2013.

He was also the overseer of the formulation and establishment of the Chiefdom and District Youth Councils in Sierra Leone.
Other youth initiatives include the Youth Enterprise Scheme, Graduate Internship Programme, Business Development Services, etc.  Commissioner Koroma nationally recognized as an expert on youth issues have a deep knowledge of youth policy and programme development in Sierra Leone with a global view of youth and economic policies and other related issues.

Apart from his professional experience he has enjoyed his youth as he served as Finance Minister in the FBC Student Union Government as well as the National Union of Students (NUSS), Secretary/Chairman of many youth organizations and networks including the pan African Mandela Youth Organization, former captain and player of the Bo School and Fourah Bay College football and volley ball teams respectively.
